more of NY and begining of Rio

Some more life in New York: Times Sq. by night
We changed the hosts for other part of Brooklyn, where most inhabitants where black so the atmosphere was totally different, went for a walk in Brooklyn downtown and walked Brooklyn Bridge during sunset over Manhattan

visited MET, walked central Park,

had dinner with... half chicken each (and what is more frightening - we managed... ). Even though I'm the one always hungry, Zosia said that 1/4 of the chicken will not be enough for her, so she took half. And the size of it was... well, more like turkey... People!!
In SOHO we jumped in a randomly found box with colourful balls (this like for kids)

in East Village we visited photo gallery run by a guy met on the street.

We went to Staten Island, nice view of Statue of Liberty and Manhattan from the ferry, we went to the beach and Zosia went crazy searching for crabs and all those little creatures.

One evening we wanted to go to Greenwich Village to some jazz bar.

We ended up in one, but later on it appeared to have a cover which we couldn't afford thus we left. Me and Zosia few minutes earlier so we waited for Sandra and Bettie (for those who don't know - we've met there two of my friends from Erazmus in Amsterdam, Canadian and German; small reunion) sitting on the stoop.

And there started our hilarious, absurd and ridiculous evening. We met Canadian guy who used to live in New York for  30 years, Brian. Let's try to describe that person: used-to-be-hippie with a lot of remainders of that, he has Polish hairdresser, he loves Polish people, thinks if he tangles his hair -  it's his best hairstyle, he writes music&concert reviews, joking all around, he was the entertainer of our group. I think the best picture of him is here: http://www.facebook.com/people/Brian-Hassett/646055260

Later on, joined us a couple - Dutch and Scottish, around in their 50-60ties and we had all those crazy, unreal and .... hard-to-find-proper-word-to-describe discussions. Once we realized how international the group is, Brian called us pre-UN meeting. Later on he kept asking passing by people if they are German, Dutch or Scottish because "we're searching so to complete our group". Why was that? There were two Polish, two Canadians and we needed others to be "coupled". Other picture from that evening - Brian running all around the street imitating Batman and yelling "Mum, do I already fly, do I ?!" as he did being 6 yo.
Other scene: this 60 yo Scottish guy (small, skinny, in old-style hat) being drunk and stoned, talking with some (big big) black-gangsta guys, who laughed at him so much... priceless.
It is all hard to describe how much fun we had. All just sitting on the stoop in Greenwich Village. As Brian kept saying - like good, old days. That was so much fun.
Just before we left - Brian took out his camera and asked me "can you please spread your legs"... he wanted to take a picture of the pattern on my orange-baggy pants (those brought from India).

Right, no talking about that part of the trip any more since you might be bored a bit. I know, it's hard to describe situation jokes but I wanted to tell you bout it anyways.

Let's move to Rio de Janeiro: We arrived without any problems, had a moment of fear because 2 of our bank cards didn't work but finally we've got it sorted out. Than we arrived to our host's place, less than 250m (half block) from Copacabana beach. Waited for him in front of Internet cafe and fall asleep. Afternoon - walking in the beach, frightening Zosia with huuuuuge flying-ants (no kidding - around 2-3cm). Lunch in very local place where nobody spoken English (as almost everywhere here) but Luiz was with us and saved our lives ;) In the evening we just had dinner at Luiz's place and talked and had a lot of fun together. Today, well... quite lazy, rainy day. Walkin around Copacabana and Ipanema (rain, wind, jackets... it's not what we dreamt about but what we can do), in the evening samba party with our host.

But we decided not to wander around too much since Luiz just told us his story that he used top live somewhere else, close to favela "so you know, yelling, shooting all the time". He said that as normal, obvious and simple thing. It made us a bit more scared. And all those his comments: "when I saw you waiting for me with all those bags and sleeping, you looked like >please rob me<", then he said " when you go for a walk, don't have your camera on your neck, always keep in the bag, just take it out for a picture and that's it" and all those hints.... Well, seems like it's really not too safe place...
